Spain Fight Past Lithuania, Take Gold // 16 August 2009

Spain are once again the U16 gold medal winners after shocking hosts Lithuania 70-64 in the finals of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men.

This is the second gold medal for Spain in the U16 games after taking the gold medal three years ago in 2006.

Jogela Named MVP // 16 August 2009

The Omnitel U16 European Championship Men displayed more than a handful of future stars that in a few years will be known to any European Basketball fan.

The five who stood out the most and were named to the All-Tournament team are Guard Nenad Miljenovic (Serbia), Guard Jaime Fernandez (Spain), Forward Tauras Jogela (Lithuania), Forward Gleb Goldyrev (Russia) and Center Przemyslaw Karnowski (Poland).

Serbia Top Poland For Bronze // 16 August 2009

Serbia won their second bronze medal in the U16 age category after beating Poland 75-69 in the Bronze medal game of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men.

The first bronze medal was won in 2006, while in 2007 they won gold.

Russia Secure Fifth Spot // 16 August 2009

The final standings of the Omnitel U16 European Championship are close to being set with only the two medal games still to be decided.

Earlier Russia beat Croatia 83-79 to win the fifth place game behind 24 points by Ivan Vadeev while the shooter Matej Buovac scored 21 for the losing side.

Spain Stick Together // 16 August 2009

Only five days ago imagining Spain in the finals of the Omnitel U16 European Championship would have feel like a  pretty bizarre scenario.

Latvia was just about to finish sweeping the Spanish team on the way to an 85-58 win in the Qualifying Round.

Spain is back in the spotlight of Europe after qualifying to the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men finals following an 88-75 win over Serbia.

In the finals are waiting the hosts of the tournament from Lithuania, who earlier beat Poland in the first Semi-Final.

Lithuania Slip Past Poland, Into Final // 15 August 2009

Lithuania is the first finalist at the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men after a 70-63 triumph over Poland in a very close and exciting Semi-Final.

To get the top spot on the podium Lithuania will need to beat the winner in the upcoming game between Spain and Serbia.

Jean-Charles Upbeat As Tournament Wraps Up // 15 August 2009

Coming to the Quarter-Finals France seemed like a strong medal contender.

They were the only team not to drop a single game in the entire competition, the first five of them won by a double-digit margin.

Spain Get Last Ticket To Semis // 14 August 2009

The list of semi-finalist is set and done after Spain won the fourth ticket with a 57-41 win over Turkey in the last Quarter-Final game of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men.

Spain will face Serbia, who eliminated Russia earlier today, in hopes of return to the finals of the U16 European Championship after making it in 2006 and 2007 but missing it last year.

Hosts Prove To Be Semi Tough // 14 August 2009

After a tough road to the Final Round Lithuania, the hosting team of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men, qualified to the top four of the championship after a 68-60 win over France.

Lithuania is the second 4th seed team to eliminate a Qualifying Round group champion, after Serbia kicked out Russia earlier today.

Poland Roll Into Semi-Finals // 14 August 2009

Poland shocked Europe one more time and took another giant down with a 51-46 win over Croatia in the second Quarter-Finals of the day at the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men in Kaunas.

A very nervous game on both sides from tip off to end resulted in a low scoring affair, in which Poland proved to have the better nerves.

Serbia Survive Russia, Into Semis // 14 August 2009

Serbia managed a big upset today in the first Quarter-Finals of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men with a 95-90 victory over Russia in overtime.

The Serbs were on the edge of elimination twice but won the last two games to make it to this stage.
